Frequently Asked Questions

  • Should I cover my outdoor unit in the winter?

American Heating & Air doesn't recommend covering an outdoor unit. After all, we live in the South and it may be freezing in the morning and over 80 degrees by lunch. It's easy to forget to uncover your HVAC unit, which could cause overheating and major damage to motors and the compressor.

  • Should I use the "On" thermostat setting?

We don't recommend using the "on" setting. It will increase your power bill and the motor will have a shorter life span.

  • Should I Replace Both The Indoor And Outdoor Units?

Yes. Your heating and air conditioning units function and are sized together to provide the correct amount of heating and cooling for your home.

  • Can ice or frost damage my hvac unit?

No. The units are built to be outdoors and designed to handle the elements. They have sensors that will defrost the unit automatically. It's best to leave it alone without worry.

  • Should I get my ac and heating unit serviced?

Yes. We're happy to schedule heating and air conditioning maintenance in the Eatonton and Milledgeville, GA areas. We inspect the entire system for any problems that may cause a breakdown on the hottest or coldest day. Signing up for heating and air conditioning maintenance also increases the life span of the units because they'll work more efficiently. We'll clean both coils and flush drains. Servicing your system will lower your power bill since clean coils transfer more heat than dirty ones.

  • What are the signs that I need an hvac replacement?

You may need a replacement if your HVAC system is:

    • More than 10 years old and requires major repairs
    • Takes longer to get your home to a comfortable temperature
    • Causing an increase in your power bill

We're available for emergency HVAC repairs in Milledgeville and Eatonton, GA. Call (478) 452-5990 today to schedule heating and air conditioning maintenance.
